WBCN really needs no introduction to DOB types. It was thee freeform rock station after its reign as a classical station (BCN for Boston Classical Network). In 1968 they began broadcasting from the Boston Tea Party at its first location on East Berkeley St. Earliest recollections at this address especially include the J. Geils Band's Peter Wolf on late nights playing whatever he felt like. That became the stations MO for about 6 years, the Golden Age of Freeform Radio. In came Charles Laquidara as 'One Take Chuckie', Ol' Saxophone Joe, JJ Jackson, Mississippi Harold Wilson and a myriad of stoner sounding DJs who dug deep into the albums coming into the station in droves. Soul, Jazz, Folk BCN did it all. One night they even simulcast out-jazzer Keith Jarrett from the legendary Paul's Mall.
