Join us for an evening of Kirtan—music, mantra, meditation and community inside one of the most extraordinary spaces in Somerville. 🎶🕉️
🕉️ What is Kirtan?
Kirtan is an ancient devotional practice from India centered around the communal singing of sacred names and mantras. Rooted in the Hindu tradition of Bhakti Yoga—the path of devotion ❤️— Kirtan has been practiced for centuries as a way of turning music into meditation.
Unlike a concert, Kirtan isn't something you simply watch. You become part of it.
🎵 A leader sings a mantra or phrase and the group sings it back. Accompanied by harmonium, drums and other instruments, the repetition gradually allows us to move out of our thinking minds and become immersed in sound, rhythm and community.
You don't need to be Hindu, know Sanskrit, have a good singing voice, or even know what Kirtan is. Simply show up and participate as much—or as little—as feels right. 🙏

Our Kirtan will take place inside the Museum of Modern Renaissance, surrounded by incredible visionary paintings, sacred imagery, mythology and vibrant color.
